Proctor Cemetery:
Blink and you’ll miss it.
My first contact with Proctor Cemetery was years ago. I
would always see it every Sunday when my wife and I would head out to my in-laws house in Armada, Michigan. I would catch a quick view of it out of the corner of my eye. It is slightly hidden
because it is on the curve in the road. Most of the locals would say “Blink
and you’ll miss it”. I always wanted to go into the Proctor Cemetery. I always felt a sort of pull toward this place.
One afternoon in July of 2008 I got my chance. One of our investigators
asked me if I wanted to go investigate Proctor Cemetery with her. She
said that she went with a group of other PIRCOM members about a week prior. I
asked if she had any EVP’s or photos as proof that the place was active? She
sent me the proof I needed to verify the activity in Proctor Cemetery. I called her
back a few days later and we agreed on a night that we would head out and investigate Proctor Cemetery.
Finally the night of July 28th came.
I loaded up my car with all of my ghost hunting gear. Then I headed north
on the Van Dyke Expressway. As soon as I got to the stop light right before the
cemetery my pulse started to pick up. The excitement of the investigation and
knowing that Proctor Cemetery was very active had me in an altered state, so to speak. I pulled up on the side of the road right
in front of the cemetery. It was just past 9:00 PM in the evening and the mid
summer night was upon me. The temperature was about 75 degrees and the sky was
clear. The sun had just about set in the sky for the night. Her and I met at the front gate of the cemetery with a hand shake.
First we started off with making up an investigation plan. We agreed to start shooting photos to see if there were any spirits present. Sure enough there were more than enough to start the second part of the investigation. The second part was to start up the audio equipment and try to make spirit contact. Then we could also record some EVP’s for the group to analyze at a later date. We worked our way to the back corner of the cemetery because she wanted to show me the haunted old
tool shed. Once we got there she noticed a drop in the temperature around
the area where the shed was. So we agreed to leave her digital voice recorder
running and she set it on the window ledge of the old tool shed. I had my digital
voice recorder running also. Then we took off to the far back corner to get some
more Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP’s).
The grass had just been cut earlier that day. The dew was forming so the grass was wet and sticking to our shoes.
The bats started to fly around eating bugs and what not. Then we ran into
some cold spots and started asking questions of the spirits that were there. Once
we had felt that we had gotten enough information we headed back to the old tool shed to retrieve the DVR from the window
ledge. When we had arrived she had found that her DVR was shut off. I still had my DVR going and asked the spirits that were present “who turned
off [this] DVR?” The both of us heard nothing at that time. When I went through the DVR info the next day I heard a voice answer the question. The voice said “I did”. To this day that Electronic
Voice Phenomena segment is still one of our favorites here at PIRCOM. That night
back in July we managed to make contact and retrieve photos and EVP’s. This
is just one of the many investigations that PIRCOM has done in the past that yielded information that cemeteries, grave yards
and the like, are haunted. Too often when people see a sign that has the word
Cemetery in it they cringe at the thought of all the scary ghost movies they have seen in the past. To us Paranormal Investigators our heart skips a beat as we think about the excitement of yet another investigation
yielding the presence of ghosts and what ever else the paranormal brings for us at PIRCOM.
